Boy’s Hoop: CVU Eases Past Hilltoppers 44-32

Hinesburg — The CVU Redhawks opened up a nine point halftime lead, and went on the beat the St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers 44-32 on Saturday afternoon inside the CVU Gym.

St. Johnsbury hung with the Redhawks for a quarter, trailing CVU 11-9 after the first eight minutes. But Codrin Cobzaru, who scored five of those nine points, went to the bench with two fouls before the end of the quarter and CVU took control, outscoring the Academy 16-9 in the second quarter to head off with a 27-18 halftime lead. The ‘hawks’ Jeremy Fuller keyed the second quarter run, scoring all of his six points in the frame.

The home team then pulled away in the third, building as large as a 17 point lead, and the Hilltoppers could not get closer than ten the rest of the way.
Reece Pawlaczyk lead a balanced Redhawk attack with 12 points. Walker Storey added eight, while Fuller and Colin Monsey each chipped in six.

Cobzaru and Antonio Carlise led the Hilltoppers with seven each.

With the win CVU evens its record at 3-3. St. Johnsbury is 1-5.
