NORTHFIELD –– The Norwich University women’s ice hockey team skated to a scoreless draw with Elmira College on Monday afternoon in the 2020 East-West Hockey Classic Consolation game at Kreitzberg Arena.
Sophomore Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.) stopped all 21 shots she faced to pick up her fourth shutout of the season in goal for Norwich.
Elmira College’s Elizabeth Hanson matched zeroes with Berg, stopping 33 shots to pick up the shutout for the Soaring Eagles.
Norwich freshman forward Ann-Frederique Guay (St. Lambert-de-Lauzon, Quebec) led the Cadets with seven shots on goal. Senior forward Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) was named to the East-West Classic All-Tournament team after registering three points in Sunday’s game vs. Plattsburgh State.
No. 1-ranked Plattsburgh State defeated Adrian College 4-1 in the championship game. Plattsburgh sophomore defenseman Sierra Benjamin had a goal and two assists in the win, earning East-West Hockey Classic MVP honors for her efforts. Elmira’s Hanson, Adrian’s Jacquelin White and Plattsburgh’s Madison Walker, Ashley Davis and Nicole Unsworth rounded out the All-Tournament team selections.
Norwich (10-2-1) and Elmira (7-2-2) will meet again in five days back in Pine Valley, N.Y. as the two future NEHC opponents will face off in a non-conference game starting at 3 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center. Elmira will join the NEHC at the start of the 2021-22 season.
