Burlington — The top seeded three time champion CVU Redhawks and the tenth seeded BFA St. Albans Comets advanced to next week’s VPA Division 1 Championship game with semi-final wins on Tuesday night inside the Patrick Gym.
The Redhawks roared out to a 24-3 halftime lead and eased their way to their 94th consecutive victory, a 43-27 win over the fourth seeded Burlington Seahorses. CVU’s defense held the Seahorses to just three points … 7.1% shooting … in the half while Laurel Jaunich led the oofense with eight points.
The lead built to 23 at 28-5 early in the third quarter before BHS put together a 12-4 run to end the third, but the Horses would get no closer the rest of the way.
Jaunich led CVU with 10 points and nine rebounds. Annabella Pugliese and Abby Thut chipped in eight points each for the winners. Norah Mitchell scored ten for Burlington as the Seahorses ended their season at a15-8.
In the early game BFA won a battle of Cinderella teams, rolling past 14th seeded Brattleboro 52-26. The Comets used a 15-0 run to open at 15-5 first quarter lead. They would stretch that margin to 17 at 29-12 at halftime and were never seriously challenged over the final 16 minutes.
Kelly Laggis led the Comets with a double double, 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Earl and Lily McAllister each added eight points for the winners.
CVU will go to the title game at 23-0. BFA will go in at 12-11. They met twice during the regular season with the Redhawks wining 56-16 and 51-28.
