HINESBURG — Ethan Harvey’s pull up three pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining gave the CVU Redhawks a 61-58 win over the St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers on Monday night inside the CVU Gym.
Harvey’s shot allowed the Redhawks to withstand a huge St.Johnsbury comeback and record their eighth win of the season.
CVU roared out of the gate, jumping into a 14-1 first quarter lead. They would build the advantage to as many as 18 before heading to the locker room up ten, 33-23 at the break.
A 10-0 Redhawks run midway in the third would stretch the lead to 18 again. But then St.J would take over, going on an 18-0 run of their own to tie the game early in the fourth. After a pair of free throws put the home team back on top, Matt Guckin would answer with a three to give the Academy their first lead of the night.
From there the teams would battle back and forth until Harvey’s decisive shot.
Harvey led all scorers with 28 points, while Noah Allen added 13 for the Redhawks.
Logan Wendell led the Academy with 22, with Brian Lamar chipping in 13 and Guckin adding nine.
With the win CVU is 8-1. St. Johnsbury slips to 6-2.
