BURLINGTON –– UVM senior forward Anthony Lamb poured in a game-high 20 points as Vermont (15-6, 5-1 AE) beat UMass Lowell (8-13, 2-4 AE) 92-62 on Saturday night. The Catamounts extended their winning streak to a season-high five games.
COACH’S QUOTE
“Tonight, was a great game and we were able to get off to a great start,” Cioffi Men’s Basketball Head Coach John Becker said. “I thought Stef and Anthony played a good game but I thought we got a great production from our bench once again.”
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The long ball was the story in the early minutes. Stef Smith drained a pair from three-point land but UML’s Ron Mitchell (16 points) countered with two of his own. A layup from Daniel Giddens had the Cats out in front 8-6 by the first media timeout.
• The Catamounts continued their hot shooting with 17 unanswered points in a near nine-minute stretch and padded the advantage to 25-6.
• The River Hawks produced a small 17-10 run of their own in the last six minutes, but the Cats still had the upper hand at the break with a 35-23 lead.
• UMass Lowell cut the margin to single digits, 46-37, with 15:32 left on the clock, but UVM responded with a 23-10 spurt in a seven-minute span.
• Vermont continued to outpace the UMass Lowell offense and expanded the lead to as high as 32 points in the final minute.
