AMHERST, MA. — The Norwich University women’s ice hockey team’s winless skid stretched to four straight games with a 4-1 loss to Amherst College on Tuesday night at Orr Rink in non-conference action.
Freshman Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Ann-Frederique Guay (St. Lambert-de-Lauzon, Quebec), but it wasn’t enough as Amherst got two goals from Kaitlin Hoang and four assists from Mia DelRosso as the Mammoths won their second straight game vs. the Cadets.
After a scoreless first period, the second period featured all five of the game’s goals. Hoang scored two power play goals, while Anne Malloy also scored in between to give Amherst a 3-0 lead after 11 minutes of the middle frame. Masotta got Norwich on the board at the 13:09 mark of the period, however Amherst seized momentum back with Jillian Mazzocca scoring.
Norwich sophomore goalie Alexa Berg (West Fargo, N.D.) made 16 saves on 19 shots in 31 minutes before being pulled for Emily Lambert (Riverview, Mich.), who came on to make 11 saves on 12 shots. Berg fell to 4-3-1 on the season.
Amherst outshot Norwich 31-30. Caitlin Walker made 29 saves for Amherst to improve to 7-3-2 on the year.
Norwich (10-4-1, 7-0-0 NEHC) will look to get back on track when it travels to Plymouth State on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Panthers.
