BURLINGTON — Hudson Valley scored both of their runs on RBI groundouts, but it was enough as three Renegade pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory over the Vermont Lake Monsters in New York-Penn League action Monday night at historic Centennial Field.
2019 second-round pick Tyler Baum allowed one run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts over the first three innings. The only run came on an RBI groundout from Cristhian Pedroza in the second innings, while Baum also worked out of a second-and-third with no-out jam in third with back-to-back strikeouts and a diving catch by right fielder Nick Osborne.
Hogan Harris retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced (only baserunner coming on an error) over four hitless innings of relief with three strikeouts. The 2018 third-round pick has now given up just one run on five hits over his last 17 1/3 innings with two walks and 20 strikeouts.
The Renegades second run came in the eighth inning off Lake Monster Austin Briggs on a Hill Alexander RBI groundout. Garrett Hiott went 3-for-4 on Monday and is now 7-for-9 in the first two games of the series for Hudson Valley (12-11).
Zach Trageton (3-2) scattered two hits with five strikeouts over six innings to earn the win, while Andrew Gross two strikeouts in two perfect innings for his second save. Colby White allowed a single and issued a walk (the only allowed by the Rengades over the last two games) in a scoreless seventh inning.
Vermont (9-15) has now lost nine of its last 10 games overall, while also losing each of their last four home games (three by shutout) and have scored just one run over their last 40 innings played at Centennial Field.
The Lake Monsters and Renegades will wrap up the three-game series on Tuesday with the annual 11:05 am day game at Centennial.
