It is Week 8 in Vermont high school football … final weekend of the regular season in Divisions One and Three … the penultimate weekend of the season in Division Two … and there are some HUGE games on the slate.
The top seed in D-1 will be on the line Friday night in White River as Rutland comes in to take on Hartford … that as unbeaten defending champion Middlebury looks to run their winning streak to 30 games in the first ever night game at upset minded CVU.
But it seems like every other game in the Division carries an importance all its own … arch rivals Brattleboro and Mt. Anthony, each having a big comeback season, meet up in Bennington with playoff position very much on the line … Colchester and BFA-St. Albans, both looking to nail down a playoff spot, clash in St. Albans … and winless South Burlington will look to eliminate their longtime rivals Essex from playoff contention as they travel to the Essex Field.
Oh and then there is St. Johnsbury. All the Hilltoppers have to worry about is The Game, a Saturday afternoon showdown with their NEK neighbors the LI Vikngs.
D-2? Try a Saturday night showdown in Manchester between unbeatens Burr & Burton and Bellows Falls or a huge battle for playoff position in Fair Haven as the Slaters play host to Burlington.
D-3? How about longtime rivals Woodstock and Windsor or unbeaten Otter Valley and Mill River?
You get the idea … lots of games will be on NSN and we can’t wait!
