Rice and Burlington staged another one of their boy’s basketball classics on Thursday night on Bernie Cieplicki Court. Ben Shungu’s 35 points were just enough to give the defending state DivisionOne champs the win against their previously unbeaten arch-rivals. We don’t call this one the ancient and honorable rivalry for nothing. So many great games … at least one more … maybe more later this season! Nights to Remember!
Then there are what should be a pair of Nights to Remember tonight … at Gutterson Fieldhouse the UVM Hockey Catamounts will play host to Dartmouth … and it will be Martin St. Louis Night at the Gutt … the former UVM and NHL star being honored in what should be very emotional ceremonies before the game. Having broadcast St. Louis’ great UVM career back in the day I can say without hesitation no one deserves it more than Marty! I only regret that I won’t be able to be there to enjoy it tonight …
But I’ll have my own Night to Remember in Northfield. That is where the Norwich hockey Cadets will host Plattsburgh in a key D-3 Hockey showdown. These two will have to go some to beat the 6-5 overtime thriller they staged in the title game of the Primelink Great Northern Shootout back in November. Has Night to Remember written all over it!
Oh, and looking ahead to 12 Noon on Saturday there is a huge America East basketball matchup at the Patrick Gym as Vermont plays host to arech-rival Albany. 12 noon … day game … can’t be a Night to Remember can it? Oh well … Day to Remember works just as well … or how about Weekend to Remember? Done!
