No. 7 Syracuse Downs Vermont in Women's Lacrosse

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Christina Dove and Tegan Brown scored four goals each and Tee Ladouceur added five assists to lead No. 7 Syracuse past Vermont, 19-7, in a neutral site women's lacrosse game at Jacksonville University on Monday afternoon.

The Catamounts, who faced their second straight nationally ranked opponent, fall to 0-2 on the season. Syracuse improves to 3-1 on the year.

"The coaching staff is pleased with the effort of the team today and it was good to see us bounce back from a tough loss at Dartmouth to open the year," said Vermont head coach Jen Johnson.

"We played with more intensity, aggressiveness, pace and with a higher skill level. Our team chemistry on the field was much better as well."

Halley Quillinan scored three of Syracuse's first four goals as the Orange jumped out to a 4-0 lead seven minutes into the game. Vermont senior Sara Buxton (Northfield, Ill.) stopped the SU rally with her first goal of the year at the 22:11 mark of the half.

Syracuse rattled off three more goals, but another tally by Buxton at the 13:28 mark sliced the lead to four, 7-3. The Orange took an 11-4 advantage into halftime.

Syracuse opened the second half with four straight goals to push its lead to 11. The Catamounts scored three times in the second half, led by a pair of goals from sophomore Samantha Stern (Cherry Hills, N.J.).

"The score does not reflect the improvements we've made and I believe we took a big step forward today. We are looking forward to continuing that trend against Jacksonville on Wednesday."

The Catamounts won the battle of the draws 16-13, but were out shot 30-14 in the game.

Buxton and Stern led UVM with two goals each and Megan MacDonald (Wayland, Mass.) added a goal and assist. Freshman Taylor Hadcock (Londonderry, N.H.) made eight stops in the Vermont net.

Liz Hogan was credited with four saves for Syracuse.

Vermont returns to action on Wednesday (March 10) when it faces Jacksonville at 4 p.m.
