Tickets are still available for the Castleton baseball team lead-off banquet on Monday February 18th at 5PM at the South Station Restaurant on South Main Street in Rutland.
The guest speaker will be former major league pitcher Tommy John.
The cost is $35.00 per person to help defray the costs of the team's trip to the Dominican Republic in late February.
Again plenty of tickets available. Call the South Station at 775-1736 or email at south.station@comcast.net

I understand your argument, but I think Tommy John falls just short of the Hall in my opinion. 26 years to get 288 wins. While he has the 20th most wins all time. He also has the 16th most losses, while starting the 8th most games (if my statistics are correct). By comparison he started 130 more games than Jim Kaat (283 wins not in the HOF), 96 more starts than Fergie Jenkins (284 wins and in the HOF) who were his contemporaries from his era. Unbelieveably... he has 94 more starts than Walter Johnson who won 417 games. Greg Maddux started 20 fewer games and has 70 more wins.

Longevity should be considered for a factor in Hall of Fame decision, but if there's debate I don't think it should be the deciding factor. He never was a great pitcher, a pretty good one for a long time, but if you ask me historically who is more deserving... I'd choose a pitcher like Andy Pettite, who might end up with less wins, but still isn't Hall of Fame worthy in my book either.
