Pressure on the Cadets … Cats Need Two Points … Pacioretty’s Big Night, It Could Have Been Bigger

George Commo’s Blog – Friday 2/7/14

The Norwich University mens hockey team has owned cross state rivals Castleton in recent seasons, but as the two teams head into another renewal of their rivalry tonight down at Spartan Arena the pressure is clearly on the Cadets. Norwich trails Babson by two points in the ECAC East league standings with four games remaining. Their string of 15 straight regular season titles is clearly on the line and they can’t afford to give up many more points. Pressure … on Norwich Advantage to Castleton? … we’ll see  tonight … the game will be right here on NSN Sports.

Also tonight the Vermont Catamounts travel to Durham, NH. for a two game series with the UNH Wildcats. Like Norwich, UVM needs points … getting at least a couple out of the two games at the Whittemore Center would seem critical to the Cats home ice playoff hopes.

And finally, how about the night Montreal’s Max Pacioretty had last night in a 5-2 Habs win over Vancouver? Pacioretty had a hat trick.. but it could have been so much more. He got not one, but TWO penalty shot attempts in the same game. In fact they came in the same period … about a minute and a half apart in the second. He failed to beat Vancouver’s Roberto Luongo on either one.  Hope they don’t meet up again with similar results in Russia. Pacioretty will be playing for Team USA … but my gut is that Luongo will be riding the pine for Team Canada.

Congratulations!
